RESEARCH: THE CRUSH

The Crush was written and directed by Michael Creagh and produced by Damon Quinn.
The film is about a young schoolboy who falls in love with his teacher and ends up challenging his teachers fiancee to a duel. This film was awarded Best Irish Short at the Foyle Film Festival.

This is another short film which has codes and conventions I can learn from. There are subtle hints about whats going to happen in the film. For example, the Cowboy poster on the boys wall. This plants the possibility of guns and stand offs in the viewers mind.
The film contains codes and conventions necessary for a short film. The film creates enigma and suspense and a plot twist. The enigma and suspense builds for the viewer making the twist have a bigger impact as the viewer is so indulged in the film, the twist is completely unexpected.
During the duel there are codes and conventions which can link the situation to a western film stand off. These include shot reverse shot and the soundtrack played over the visual image creating a sense of western duels. This increases the sense of realism in the viewers mind.

  1. Clear except for the wording 'indulged'; you mean 'involved',
